The Department of Philology at the University of the Peloponnese offers the highest quality of teaching, both on undergraduate and graduate levels, as well as providing students with the best theoretical grounding in the areas of teaching practice and research. In particular, through a broad range of courses and events, as well as through the consistent use of excellent resources and facilities, we aim to offer aptitude in all aspects of Greek and Latin language and literature. In addition, we provide a supportive and internationally oriented environment for students with teaching opportunities, high-calibre postgraduate programs, several research centers, and numerous research seminars, conferences, and workshops.
Elena Koutrianou
Head of Department
Our innovative teaching embraces a broad range of material from Archaic Greece through Byzantium to Modern Greece and from Late Antiquity through the Roman Empire to Constantinople and Modern Hellenism. Our four-year degree is designed for flexibility and coherence; after core introductory modules in the first two years, students specialize in their own areas of interest for the remaining two years. Our optional dissertation module is carefully structured to give students maximum support as they do their own research.
The Department of Philology has excellent on-line facilities for both our undergraduate and postgraduate students.
The Department of Philology has excellent resources and expertise to support two high-calibre postgraduate programs. We provide a supportive and friendly environment for students, with dedicated work space, teaching opportunities, regular research, and postgraduate seminars, conferences, and workshops.
