Undergraduate Studies

Undergraduate studies in the Department of Philology are four years or eight semesters. Courses are divided into core curriculum and those of subject specialization course units.

Core curriculum courses are the Department’s basic courses and are taught to all students during the first four semesters. Prior to the fifth semester, each student chooses one of the following two subject course units of specialization, offered by the Department:

  • Classical Literature
  • Byzantine and Modern Greek Literature

Depending on the subject cycle chosen by the student, he/she enrolls into a series of mandatory courses in the cycle, electives and freely chosen (courses of general aptitude). Moreover, in addition to the study of these courses, during the seventh and eighth semesters, the student conducts his/her thesis.
